The turnout beat the previous record of  2,136 held by the Japanese city of Kitakyushu. 

Townsville also holds a Guinness World Record for ‘the longest horns in the world’ for the region’s famous Texas Longhorn steer, J.R. This steer’s striking horns were found to measure a massive 2.77 metres (9.1 inches) from tip to tip.
