PRODUCT DISCLOSURE STATEMENT

Home Contents and Personal Property in Transit

A simple overview of QBE’s transit insurance for household contents and personal property during packing, moving, unpacking, and limited storage during a move.

About this cover

This insurance is underwritten by QBE Insurance (Australia) Limited and is designed to cover insured household contents and personal property while being moved by professional removalists, including packing, transit, unpacking, and storage for up to 30 days unless extended.

Important: This page is a simplified summary only. Customers should still read the full Product Disclosure Statement and Policy wording before relying on the cover.

Key benefits

  • Protection against loss or damage while property is being packed, moved and unpacked by professional removalists.
  • Cover for insured property while in storage during the removal process for up to 30 days in total.
  • New-for-old replacement value for most insured property, regardless of age.
  • Land transit benefit for temporary accommodation if delivery is delayed because of an insured event.
  • Sea transit cover can include jettison, general average sacrifice, and salvage charges.

What may not be covered

  • Electrical, electronic, or mechanical failure without visible external damage from an insured event.
  • Ordinary wear and tear.
  • Rust, oxidisation, discolouration, mould, insects, rats, or vermin.
  • Pre-existing damage before transit begins.
  • Cash, credit cards, stamps, deeds, tickets, travellers’ cheques, jewellery, watches, pets, and living plants.
  • Theft, pilferage, or non-delivery for owner-packed goods unless a detailed carton inventory was provided before transit.

What QBE may pay

  • Repair of damaged goods.
  • Replacement with the nearest equivalent new goods.
  • Payment of the cost of repair or replacement.
  • For motor vehicles, motorcycles, boats, caravans and trailers: repair, reasonable replacement cost, or market value immediately before the loss or damage.
  • Legal liability for shipping containers in your care, custody and control up to $5,000.

Temporary accommodation

For land transit, if an insured event stops all of your property being delivered by the intended delivery date, QBE may contribute to necessary temporary accommodation costs.

Limit: Up to $250 per day for a maximum of 30 days.

When cover starts and ends

Cover starts when the removalist begins packing or moving the insured property and ends when the goods arrive at the nominated address and are unpacked by the removalist, provided unpacking is completed within 30 days. If property goes into storage, cover remains for up to 30 days unless the policy has been extended for a longer period.

How to make a claim

  1. Take reasonable steps to prevent further loss or damage.
  2. Advise the removalist who delivered your property.
  3. Complete QBE’s claim form and any additional forms requested.
  4. Do not repair or replace anything until QBE has given approval.

Important claim notes

  • An excess may apply to claims.
  • Claims can be reduced or refused if policy conditions are not met.
  • Fraudulent claims may be declined.
  • When goods are delivered, do not sign off unless you are satisfied everything has arrived in good order.
  • If you cannot fully inspect the goods at delivery, sign “Subject to checking when unpacked”.

Cooling off

If you change your mind and have not made a claim, you can cancel within 21 days of the start date for a full refund, subject to the policy terms.

Cancellation

You may cancel the policy before removal starts. Once packing or moving has commenced, cancellation is not available.

Duty of disclosure

Before entering into the contract, you must tell QBE anything you know, or could reasonably be expected to know, that may affect their decision to insure you and on what terms.
